Your Guide to Therapy Intensives: What Happens and How They Help

by | Feb 4, 2025

If you’ve been considering a therapy intensive but aren’t quite sure what to expect, you’re not alone. Intensives are a powerful way to achieve deeper healing in less time, but they can feel like a big commitment. In this post, I’ll walk you through exactly what happens during a therapy intensive, so you know what to expect and how it can help you.

Why Choose a Therapy Intensive?

Therapy intensives are designed to provide a focused, immersive experience. Unlike weekly sessions, where you have limited time to dive deep, intensives allow us to address the root causes of your challenges in one extended session or a series of focused sessions. Sometimes in a weekly 50-minute session, we don’t get to the heart of things until it is nearly time to stop. This can be so frustrating for clients! With an intensive, we can use the momentum from the first hour and keep moving forward. Like a ball rolling downhill, insight and clarity increase at a fast pace after that first hour.

What Happens During an Intensive?

During a therapy intensive, we’ll begin with a clear focus on your goals. This part is necessary, as the entire intensive is custom to exactly what you are working through. From there, I’ll guide you through a combination of education and targeted exercises to help build clarity and create solutions. By the end of the session, you’ll leave with a sense of purpose and actionable steps for moving forward. You can expect a lot of “a ha!” moments throughout the intensive.

How to Prepare for Your Intensive

The best way to prepare is to be thinking about what exactly you’d like to walk away with from the session. Be prepared to talk about the past, but also strategically plan for your future. It is best to take the day off from work (most of my intensives are on Sundays), and plan for a low-key day afterward. I’ll always invite you to dress cozy and will have snacks to share during our breaks.

Who Are Therapy Intensives Best For?

Therapy intensives are best for people who are pressed for time, or who don’t feel that 50 minutes is enough time to make progress. My intensives are best for women who struggle with anxiety, burnout, people pleasing or uncertainty about their future. Women who feel overwhelmed, at their wits end, or stuck are a perfect fit. You can always choose to continue regular weekly sessions afterward, but most clients only need to be seen monthly, or as needed after an intensive.

Therapy intensives aren’t just for people in crisis—they’re for anyone ready to dig deep, heal, and move forward with clarity. If you’re ready to learn more, schedule a free, zero pressure consultation today to see if this is the right fit for you.

Sincerely,

Sally
